Most important would be more TB4 ports (USB-C does not cut it). Knowing now what I do for my requirements, the perfect hub for me would add a single HDMI port, an ethernet port and a single USB-A, have more TB4 ports and have a higher power delivery to a MBP.

Other than that though it is good, and I might buy a second one to daisy chain it - in which case I might see about getting the current one exchanged (but I can’t live without it in the meeanwhile). When I bought it it was a long wait time so didn’t return it. It randomly disconnects and reconnects - maybe once a week - and I know it is this port to blame - if the cable gets knocked then it happens too.

surprisingly decent 15' or so PC laptops in the 700-900 range (now they actually come with decent screens, SSDs, decent touchpads, etc). So, Im left looking at 16' 2500 apple macbook pro models vs. A 13.3' air has plenty of power for her, but a tiny screen.

I have one niggle, and that is the TB4 port to the Mac seems to be not perfect, as in not a very great and snug fit for the cable. My 70 year old mom wants a large screen, but doesnt need much power. It is well built - I also got some CalDigit TB4 cables and they are all really good quality. It was released before the new MBPs and I was expecting the new MBPs to have ethernet - so it would have made me happy too if this had an ethernet port - but I can just get a dongle so no problem really.

The one silver lining is that this is only a problem on the base 8 CPU core / 14 GPU core model - if you do any processor upgrades, you’ll get the 96W brick for “free.” Please note, though, that upgrading just the RAM and/or storage on the base MacBook Pro won’t get you that upgrade, but if you’re in the configuration screen anyways, you should absolutely check that box unless you hate fast charging.I bought one of these for my M1 Mac Mini, intending to use it on my MBP (if it ever arrives). (If it was $20, I might not even trust it not to burn down my house). There may be, somewhere in the world, a 100W USB-PD charging brick that sells for $20, but there’s no way I would trust it enough to charge a very expensive computer.

I know it probably doesn’t feel great to encourage Apple’s nickel-and-diming, but if you want fast charging, this will likely be the best way to get it. This may be the best $20 you can spend on an accessory for your new MacBook Pro. When Apple announced its new MacBook Pro last week, Mac fans were up in arms about the removal of its HDMI port, SD card reader and MagSafe power connector (among other things.) The new models have four Thunderbolt 3 ports (two on each side), and thats it, thus requiring dongles in order to use legacy connectors. If you already have a beefy power brick, you can skip the upsell. The exception is if you already have a charging brick capable of 100W USB-PD power delivery: Apple tells The Verge that you can fast charge via Thunderbolt as long as your power brick provides enough power. Is it ridiculous that Apple is basically taxing the people who want to buy its least expensive (but still very pricey!) new MacBook Pro? Yes, absolutely - but you should still probably pay it if you want to charge your laptop up quickly. Recharge your MacBook Pro easily with this Apple MagSafe 2 MD506LL/A power adapter that features a magnetic DC connector that disconnects when strained to help protect your laptop and prevent the cable from fraying or weakening.

That’s because, according to some wording on Apple’s MacBook Pro configuration page ( spotted by MacRumors), you’ll need the more powerful charger if you want to take advantage of the computer’s fast charging feature, which can charge the laptop up to 50 percent in half an hour. If you’re looking at buying the 1,999 base model MacBook Pro 14-inch, there’s one upgrade that you may really want to make the 20 one that gets you the 96W power adapter. If you’re looking at buying the $1,999 base model MacBook Pro 14-inch, there’s one upgrade that you may really want to make - the $20 one that gets you the 96W power adapter instead of the 67W included power adapter.
